A Few Lines About Bahr al-Uloom
چند سطور بحرالعلوم کے بارے میں
Shams al-Mufassirin, Shaykh al-Muhaqqiqin, Ustadh al-Ulama, Hazrat Bahr-ul-Uloom Muhammad Abdul Qadeer Siddiqui — may Allah have mercy upon him — was a personality of the city of Hyderabad whose like is rarely seen among scholars and professors. He was born on Friday, 2 Rajab 1288 AH (13 October 1871 CE) in Hyderabad, the renowned centre of learning. He completed his education at Nizam College and from the outset passed with distinction. When it became customary for the Osmania University to be established in Hyderabad, he was appointed to it and served as Professor and Head of the Department of Religious Studies by royal Nizam decree. His service continued for many years.
He compiled a complete exegesis of the Holy Qur'an — "Tafseer Siddiqui" — which was commenced in Pakistan and completed here in Hyderabad by the grace of Allah in 1993. The Academy is also proud of his scholarly research essay "Mas'alah Muz'al-Qur'an" (The Problem of Qur'anic Abrogation), which proves that not a single verse of the Holy Qur'an has been abrogated. In the Department of Religious Studies at Osmania University, he also translated Ibn Arabi's legal chapters (al-Ahkam). He is renowned as a translator from Osmania University, and his works include: Hikmat Islamiyyah, al-Ma'arif, al-Irfan, al-Tawhid (in Persian), and Urdu works on Islamic mysticism (Irfan).
He was exclusively devoted to Arabic, Persian, Urdu, and Hindi poetry and prose. His collected verse is known as "Kulliyyat-e-Hasrat." He passed away on 22 Shawwal 1381 AH (28 March 1962 CE), departing at the time of the 'Asr prayer in a state of spiritual absorption.
