I'tisam bil-Kitab wal-Sunnah
Holding Fast to the Book and the Sunnah
Gentlemen! The meaning of *Aal-ya'ool* is to return/refer. What is its consequence? What is the outcome? The family of Pharaoh (*Aal-e-Fir'aun*); the followers of Pharaoh. The family of Muhammad ﷺ; the followers of Muhammad ﷺ, the ranks of the family and followers of Muhammad ﷺ. As soon as one becomes a Muslim, he becomes included in the family of Muhammad. That is, every Muslim is of the family of Muhammad, just as every follower of Pharaoh is of the family of Pharaoh. One who fulfills obligations and abstains from prohibitions, his connection to Hazrat Muhammad ﷺ is greater, therefore his being of the family of Muhammad is also greater. Banu Hashim are also connected to the Prophet ﷺ. Therefore, they are also the family, and taking charity (Sadaqah) is forbidden for them. The pure Panjtan (five holy personalities) have a greater connection to the Messenger of God ﷺ compared to others. Therefore, the state of being the family of Muhammad is also stronger and greater in them. Verses of the Holy Qur'an have been revealed for the pure wives; they are primarily the family of the Messenger because their house and the house of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was one, they ate the food given to him. Sons and daughters were born from Hazrat Bibi Khadijah. Just as they were the sons and daughters of Bibi Khadijah, they were also of the Messenger of God ﷺ. Look! There is a kind of identity between husband and wife. The mother's child is a brother. The daughter's child is a grandson. The sister's child is a nephew. But the wife's child is also the husband's child. Therefore, being the family and household is proven most of all for the wives. In the Holy Qur'an, the wives of Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) and other prophets have been called "Ahl al-Bayt".
Translation: (Allah the Exalted says) O people! Hold fast, all together, to the rope of Allah and do not be divided or scattered. Do not create sects.
Translation: (Allah the Exalted says) Hold firmly to what We have given you and remember what is in it,
so that you may become pious, God-fearing.
Translation: Allah the Exalted says: And We send down of the Qur'an that which is a complete healing and a mercy for the believers.
Translation: Allah the Exalted says: And obey Allah and obey the Messenger and always remain fearful.
Gentlemen! It is known from these verses what is to be done. Holding fast to the rope of faith. Remaining united among yourselves. Not letting go of avoiding disputes. Also, it is known that being firm and steadfast on the Holy Hadith and the Holy Qur'an is maintained for the Muslim. Until you act upon the Qur'an, your name will never be among the pious (Muttaqeen). Doubt and superstition will not be a partner. For the diseases of the heart, the Qur'an is healing and mercy. Also, it is known that even for physical diseases, the Qur'an is healing. We have experienced it repeatedly and found it to be so. Also, there is a command that you should always remain fearful. Whom should you fear? God? So, love Him and fear Him. Then who to fear? One's own negligence, one's own actions. It also comes from this that if you act upon the Qur'an, you will not fall ill, nor will you be destitute.
Translation: Hazrat Jabir bin Abdullah narrates: A few angels presented themselves to the Holy Prophet ﷺ while he was resting (sleeping). Some of them said, "There is an example for this friend of yours. State this example for him." Some angels said, "He is resting," and others said, "His eyes are sleeping but his heart is awake (alert)." Then the angels said, "His example is like a person who built a house and arranged a feast in it, and sent a caller (inviter). Then whoever responded to the caller entered the house and partook in the feast. And whoever did not accept the caller's invitation did not enter the house nor partake in the feast." Some angels said, "Interpret this so that he may understand its meaning." Some angels said, "He is sleeping," and others said, "His eyes are sleeping but his heart is awake." Then the angels said, "The house is Paradise? And the caller is Muhammad ﷺ. So whoever obeyed Muhammad ﷺ, he obeyed Allah. And whoever disobeyed Muhammad ﷺ, he disobeyed Allah. Muhammad ﷺ creates a distinction among people." (This narration is in Bukhari and also in Mishkat)
Translation: Hazrat Anas bin Malik narrates: A group of three men came to the wives of the Holy Prophet ﷺ and began asking about the worship of the Noble Prophet ﷺ. When they were informed about his worship, it was as if they considered it little (insufficient). Then they said, "Where are we compared to the Noble Prophet ﷺ? God has forgiven his past and future sins!" Then one of them said, "As for me, I will pray the entire night, forever." Another said, "I will fast every day, forever, and never break it." The third said, "I will keep away from women and never marry." During this time, the Noble Prophet ﷺ arrived and said, "Are you the people who said such and such? Yes! By God! I am the most God-fearing among you, and the most pious among you! But I observe fasts and also break them (i.e., there are days I don't fast), I perform prayers and also sleep, and I marry women. So whoever turns away from my Sunnah (my way), he has no connection with me! (Meaning, he is not among those who belong to me - he is not one who follows my footsteps)." (This Hadith is Muttafaq Alayh - meaning Muslim and Bukhari have both recorded it, and it is also in Mishkat).
Gentlemen! "Khilaf-e-payambar kase rah guzeed ki hargiz bamanzil nakhwahad raseed" *(Whoever chooses a path contrary to the Prophet, will never reach the destination)*
Islam is a practical, living religion. It does not render useless any of the human faculties. Islam teaches that pay everyone their due right. The right of God to God, the right of the Messenger to the Messenger, the right of friends to friends, the right of wife and children to them.
Monasticism is not in Islam. A monk, one who abandons the world, one who sits in seclusion, are non-Muslims. Being unappreciative of God's blessings is a sign of a non-Muslim. What is the thing that God has not given you, and it is a blessing?
In Islam, there is neither "Nun" nor "Chhoti" (i.e. those who stay at the Rafizis). If all people for a hundred (100) years stopped marrying
and leaving the world, the world would come to an end. Moreover, I say that the education of Muhammad teaches that it is necessary to value God's given blessings. Eat, drink, laugh, speak, but under the command.
"Be-hukm shara' aab khurdan khata ast agar khoon ba-fatwa beri zee rawa ast" *(Drinking water against the ruling of Shariah is a sin, If blood is shed by a fatwa, it is permissible)*
Gentlemen! Now I want to draw your attention to another issue. The Messenger of God ﷺ is infallible (Ma'soom), and every Prophet is infallible. If a Prophet is not infallible, then he cannot be trusted, so God creates the Prophet infallible, then Allah Ta'ala makes him the Messenger of God ﷺ. What is the meaning of forgiving his past and future sins? The answer is that the Messenger of God ﷺ is a leader and commander of his Ummah. In an army, if a soldier makes a mistake, the commander has to apologize. We commit sins and ask for forgiveness through the Messenger of God ﷺ. Another point is that the Messenger of God ﷺ is progressing every moment, so his previous state is considered a sin compared to the belief of that time, and he asks for forgiveness from it.
Also listen! Maghfirat means to cover/hide. God covers the sins in such a way that they cannot reach the Prophet. This is also Maghfirat.
Translation: Hazrat Bibi Ayesha Siddiqa (RA) narrates that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did a certain deed and gave permission for it. Then some people refrained from it. This news reached the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He delivered a sermon. First, he praised Allah, then said, "What is the condition of people who refrain from the very thing I do? By God, I know God better than all of them, and I am the most fearful of Him among them all." (This Hadith is narrated by Bukhari and Muslim, and is in Mishkat).
Gentlemen! To consider a thing bad that the Messenger of God ﷺ did, and to refrain from it, is nothing but foolishness. In one's own opinion, interfering in religion, considering a deed bad, sometimes becomes a cause for dangerous results. After all, what is the meaning of making legislation (Tashree') in religion? Modifying the commands of Allah and the Messenger from one's own side, increasing something, decreasing something, declaring the good as bad, or the bad as good, this is indeed legislation in religion.
Translation: Abu Musa (RA) narrates that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The guidance and knowledge with which God has sent me is like abundant rain which falls on a land. A good portion of this land accepts the water and produces abundant pasture and green grass. Another portion of the land is hard and barren; it holds the water (and becomes pools and ponds), and Allah benefits people through it. People drink from it themselves, give drink to others, and use it for agriculture. The rain also falls on another portion which is a flat barren plain. It neither holds the water nor produces grass. This is the example of a Faqih and an 'Alim who acquires understanding in the religion of God. The teaching with which God has sent me benefits him. Thus, he acquires knowledge himself and imparts knowledge to others. And this is also the example of people who do not lift their heads towards my teaching, do not appreciate it, and do not accept the guidance of God with which I have been sent."
Gentlemen! There are three types of people. One are those who benefited themselves. The second are those who benefited themselves and benefited others. These are the teachers, the masters. They are guides. The third are those who listened to matters of religion with one ear and let it out the other; neither did they benefit themselves nor did they benefit others.
Translation: Irbadh bin Sariyah (RA) narrates: He said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up and delivered a sermon. He said: "Does anyone among you, reclining on his couch, think that Allah has not made anything forbidden except what is in this Qur'an? Listen carefully! By God, I have enjoined, advised, and forbidden several things. Without doubt, they are equal in number to what is in the Qur'an or more. God has not made it lawful for you to enter the houses of the People of the Book without permission, nor to beat their women, nor to eat their fruits when they have paid what is due upon them." (Abu Dawud - Mishkat).
Translation: Hazrat Ibn Abbas (RA) narrates that the Messenger of God ﷺ said: "Matters are of three types. One whose goodness is apparent. You follow it, do it. And one whose evil is apparent. So you avoid it, abstain from it. And one matter in which there is disagreement. So leave it to Allah, Mighty and Majestic." (Meaning people of reflection and thought - O people of inspiration, act upon your inspiration).
Gentlemen! Do not investigate unnecessarily. For someone who is not a Mujtahid, if he is unaware of the objectives and purposes of the Qur'an and Hadith, he should not involve his heart in baseless investigations. Allah Ta'ala says: "وَالَّذِينَ جَاهَدُوا فِينَا لَنَهْدِيَنَّهُمْ" "Those who strive concerning Us, or regarding Us, We guide them." Meaning, those who exert independent scholarly effort (Ijtihad), We will show them Our path.
"You wait for unveiling and inspiration." You will receive inspiration, wait for it, and if inspiration does not come, then do Ijtihad. For the poor (faqirs), waiting for inspiration is their own way; without inspiration, they do not act. The answer of inspiration is Istikhara.
Translation: Hazrat Imam Malik (RH) narrates in a Mursal manner that the Messenger of God ﷺ said: "I have left two things among you; you will never go astray as long as you hold fast to both of them. One is the Book of Allah, and the other is the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah."
Translation: Hazrat Jabir bin Abdullah (RA) narrates that Hazrat Umar bin Khattab (RA) brought a copy of the Torah to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Then he submitted, "O Messenger of Allah! This is a copy of the Torah." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ remained silent. So Hazrat Umar (RA) began reading
and the blessed face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ began to change (in anger). Then Hazrat Abu Bakr (RA) said, "May the mourning women mourn you! Do you not see the change in the face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?" Hazrat Umar (RA) looked at the face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and submitted, "I seek refuge in Allah from the wrath of Allah and the wrath of His Messenger. We are pleased with Allah as our Lord, with Islam as our religion, and with Muhammad as our Prophet." Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "By the One in whose hand is the life of Muhammad, if Musa appeared to you and you followed him and left me, you would surely stray from the right path. If Musa were alive and found my prophethood, he would certainly follow me."
Gentlemen! Some ignorant people have this thought that Jews, Christians, Hindus, Muslims, whatever one may be, there is salvation for him. Whether one considers Muhammad ﷺ as the Messenger of God or not. Look at this Hadith! Without accepting Hazrat as a Prophet, there is no way except straying. The prophecies of all the Prophets occurring about the Messenger of God ﷺ is proof of all the Prophets believing in him. Then what form does salvation take? Gentlemen! The law that is accepted once is then abrogated later. The abrogated path is a mistake. It is foolishness.
