On True and Righteous Dreams
Narrated by Abu Razin al-'Uqayli (may Allah be pleased with him): The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'The dream of a believer is one-fortieth of prophethood, and it is perched on the leg of a bird as long as it is not narrated; once narrated, it settles (comes to pass).' (Tirmidhi — Mishkat). The author: the true dream (ru'ya sadiqah) is one of the remaining portions of prophethood — a form of divine communication with the servant that does not contradict the finality of prophethood.
Narrated by Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'The truest dreams are those seen at dawn (sahar).' (Tirmidhi)
