On Adornment and Its Limits

"Say: Who has forbidden the adornment of Allah which He has brought forth for His servants, and the good things of provision?" (Al-A'raf, 7:32). The author explains: Islam is a middle path. It does not forbid beautiful clothing or good provision; rather, it forbids arrogance and extravagance. The believer may dress well, provided it does not lead to pride or squandering.

Narrated by Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both): The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'Whoever wears a garment of fame (to show off) in this world, Allah will clothe him in a garment of humiliation on the Day of Resurrection, and then set it ablaze.' (Abu Dāwūd, Ibn Mājah; also al-Dārimī)
