A Few Lines About Bahr-ul-Uloom

Shams al-Mufassirin, Shaykh al-Muhaddithin, Ustad al-Ulama — Hazrat Muhammad Abdul Qadeer Siddiqui Hasrat (may Allah have mercy upon him) was born on 27 Rajab 1288 AH (13 October 1871 CE) in Hyderabad Deccan. He was a distinguished Islamic scholar of rare depth and breadth.

He studied in Punjab and graduated with the Maulvi Fazil and Munshi Fazil degrees, then came to the famous seminaries of Hyderabad Deccan. When Osmania University was established, he was appointed Professor and Head of the Department of Religious Studies, a post he held with distinction for ten years.

He wrote a complete Tafsir of the Holy Quran titled Tafsir Siddiqui, which was published in both India and Pakistan. He also authored a research paper through the Hyderabad Academy in 1931 CE refuting the doctrine of abrogation (naskh) in the Quran.

Among his major works are: Kitab al-Ilm, Kitab al-Islam, Kitab al-Iman, and Kitab al-Ihsan (in Arabic); a celebrated Urdu translation of Ibn Arabi's Fusus al-Hikam; and the Persian works Hikmat Islamia, al-Tawhid, and al-Irfan. He also left behind an extensive body of mystical correspondence. He was a poet in Arabic, Urdu, Persian, and Hindi; his collected poems are gathered in the Kulliyyat Hasrat.
