Chapter 4

Session: 28 November 1958 / 14 Jamadi al-Awwal — Friday

۲۸ نومبر ۱۹۵۸ء — جمعہ

Understanding the Qur'an (قرآن کو سمجھنا)

To understand the Qur'an one must empty oneself. Emptying (khali hona) does not mean ignorance — it means approaching the divine word with a heart free of preconceptions and personal desires. The Qur'an speaks to the prepared heart. Those who approach it to extract only what confirms their prior views will miss its deeper guidance. True Qur'anic understanding requires both outward learning and inward purification.

Becoming Empty (خالی ہونا)

Emptying the self — becoming free of ego and self-will — is the prerequisite for receiving divine illumination. As long as a vessel is full of something else, nothing new can enter it. The seeker of truth must first empty his heart of worldly attachments and then present himself at the door of divine grace.
