The Natural Instinct of Evil (فطرت کی برائی)

The fundamental nature of a person — their fitra as it was formed — is not so easily changed, even by knowledge and cultivation. A great Hakim who had abandoned religion while appearing refined in manner — another person saw him and pointed out that this same refined person was secretly appropriating the poetry of others and attributing it to himself. 'That is the theft of poetry — that is his nature.' Even outward cultivation cannot eradicate a deeply embedded inner corruption. This underscores the importance of the spiritual path — only the transformation that comes through divine grace and sincere inner work can genuinely change the fitra.
