Chapter 16

Sessions: March–April 1959

مارچ–اپریل ۱۹۵۹ء

The Divorce Has Become Bain (طلاق بائن ہو گئی)

Continuing the discussion of the young maulvi's fatwa: when talaq ba'in (irrevocable divorce) has taken place, the couple cannot return to each other without a proper halalah — meaning the woman must complete her 'idda (waiting period), marry another man of her own free choice, consummate that marriage, and then be divorced or widowed by the second husband before she may consider remarrying the first. This is a serious matter of Islamic law and must not be taken lightly.

To Repel Fears (خطرات دفع کرنے کے لیے)

أَلَا إِنَّ أَوْلِيَاءَ اللَّهِ لَا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ

'Verily, the friends of Allah — there shall be no fear upon them, nor shall they grieve' (Yunus 10:62). For repelling fears and intrusive thoughts (khatra), Hazrat recommended the recitation of this verse and the cultivation of deep trust in Allah. The friend of Allah is protected by divine care.

Complete Surrender (سپردگی)

Sipardagi — total surrender of one's affairs to Allah — is the highest station of tawakkul (reliance on Allah). It is not passivity or fatalism; rather it is the active state of entrusting one's cause to the All-Powerful while continuing to employ the divinely appointed means. The truly surrendered person finds peace in every circumstance, knowing that Allah's arrangement is always better than anything the servant could devise.
