The Remembrance of My Murshid
Hazrat spoke of his own Shaykh and murshid with profound love and reverence. The relationship between a disciple and his murshid in the Sufi tradition is one of the most sacred bonds — a means of divine grace descending from the Prophet (peace be upon him) through an unbroken chain of hearts. To remember the murshid is to activate the blessing of that entire chain.
The Philosophy of the Formation and Elevation of the Universe
The universe came into being through a divine act of will and love — the well-known hadith qudsi as cited by the Sufi masters: 'I was a Hidden Treasure and desired to be known, so I created creation.' Its formation is progressive — from the simplest to the most complex — and its elevation is through the appearance of consciousness and then spiritual awareness. Humanity stands at the apex of this ascent and is charged with returning to the Divine source from which everything originated.
The Ingratitude of the Present Age
Hazrat observed that the present age is characterised by a failure to appreciate the value of true knowledge and genuine scholarship. People flock to those who entertain and flatter them, while the truly learned — those who possess authentic wisdom — are ignored or belittled. This ingratitude is a sign of the spiritual decline of the age.
The Material World and the Upper World
The 'alam al-maddi (material world) is the lowest level of existence — the realm of dense matter and change. Above it is the 'alam al-'ulwi (the upper or higher world) — the realm of the subtle, the spiritual, and the angelic. Human beings have a foot in both worlds and are charged with using the material as a vehicle for ascent to the spiritual.
We Shall Join Their Offspring to Them
'And those who believed and whose offspring followed them in faith — We will join their offspring to them' (al-Tur 52:21). The divine mercy extends across generations — the faith of righteous parents is a means of elevation for their children and descendants. This verse is a source of great comfort and encouragement for believers to strive in faith.
The Three States of the Messenger of Allah
The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) had three essential states: the state of his humanity (bashariyya), in which he was like other human beings in physical needs; the state of his prophethood (nubuwwa), in which he received divine revelation; and the state of his spiritual realities (haqiqa muhammadiyya), which is the highest and most encompassing station. Understanding these three states helps the believer hold the correct view of the Prophet — fully human, yet of the highest spiritual station.
The Durood Sharif Is the Remembrance of Allah
Sending blessings upon the Prophet (durood/salawat) is itself a form of dhikr-Allah (remembrance of Allah), because it is a form of worship commanded by Allah in His book (al-Ahzab 33:56). Those who question whether invoking blessings upon the Prophet is a form of divine remembrance have not understood the nature of worship — every act of obedience to Allah is, in essence, a remembrance of Him.
