Bab al-Isyan Yubayin Kamal al-Iman
Disobedience Contradicts the Perfection of Iman
"Is your Iman not this, that We are the Creator of everything and on the Day of Judgment We will resurrect all of them and question them regarding their worldly life?" Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) submitted: "Why not! My Lord! My Iman is that You alone are the Creator of the earth and the heavens and tomorrow on the Day of Judgment You will resurrect everyone. But O Master! To satisfy my heart I submitted this, so that my Iman becomes firm and perfect." O friends! Regarding the increase and decrease of Iman, there is a difference of opinion among scholars whether Iman actually decreases and increases. According to Hazrat Imam A'zam (RH), Iman neither decreases nor increases. Either it will be the state of Islam or Kufr (disbelief). According to the Mu'tazilites, a major sinner becomes a disbeliever. According to the Khawarij, a major sinner becomes a disbeliever. To reconcile these differences, it is said that there is no increase or decrease in the essence of Iman. However, in terms of the state and strength of Iman or details, there remains an excess. By sitting in the company of the people of Allah, there is an addition to the strength of Iman and a specific state is created. Maulana Rumi has stated this point as follows: "Sitting for a moment with the Awliya (friends of Allah) * Is better than a hundred years of sincere obedience."
وَقَالَ مُعَاذٌ - اِجْلِسْ بِنَا نُؤْمِنْ سَاعَةً - (بخاری) *Translation:- Hazrat Mu'adh bin Jabal (RA) said to his friend: "Sit with us for a while so that we may mutually increase our strength of Iman." (This hadith is in Sahih Bukhari).*
بَابٌ : فِى اَنَّ الْعِصْيَانَ يُبَايِنُ كَمَالَ الْإِيْمَانِ وَ مُقْتَضَاهُ *Chapter: In the statement that disobeying is against the perfection of Iman and its requirement*
فَوْقَ رَأْسِهِ: above his head. كَ: like, similar. ظُّلَّةِ: canopy, shade. رَجَعَ: returned, came back. *Translation:- It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (RA) that he said, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "When a servant commits adultery, Iman departs from him, meaning a state of heedlessness overcomes him, and Iman remains hovering over his head like a canopy. Then when that person is free from this act, Iman returns to him. Meaning, the state of heedlessness of Iman goes away."* (This is a single point. This hadith is narrated by Tirmidhi and Abu Dawud)

سَرَقَ: stole, to steal. يَغُلُّ: rancor, embezzlement. كدورت: impurity. Embezzlement in public wealth. تَقْلِب: inversion. أَصَابِع: fingers, plural of Isba' (finger). شَبَّكَ أَصَابِعَهُ: entered his fingers into the fingers (interlocked). هَكَذَا: like this, thus. فَإِنْ تَابَ: then if he repents. عَادَ: returned, came back. لَايَكُوْنُ هَكَذَا: will not be like this. تَامًّا: perfect. *Translation:- And it is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (RA) that he said, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The adulterer does not commit adultery while he is a believer. (Meaning at the time of committing adultery, a person becomes heedless of Iman). And a thief does not steal while he is a believer. (Meaning at the time of stealing, his state of Iman becomes heedless). And none of you embezzles public wealth while he is a believer. (Meaning at the time of embezzling public wealth as well, his strength of Iman becomes weak. Negligence in obligatory duties is also a result of heedlessness of Iman). Therefore, save yourself, save yourself. (Look! I am saying again, save yourself).* *(This hadith is Muttafaq Alaih. Meaning Imam Bukhari and Imam Muslim both have narrated it).* *And in the narration of Hazrat Abdullah ibn Abbas (RA), there is that "And he does not murder while he is a believer." (Meaning the murderer also becomes heedless of Iman). Hazrat Ikrimah (who is the freed slave and student of Hazrat Abdullah ibn Abbas) said, I asked Ibn Abbas: How does Iman get distanced from him? So Hazrat Ibn Abbas said "like this" and he interlocked the fingers of one hand into the fingers of the other hand and separated them, and said "If he repents, then his Iman returns to him like this." (Saying this, he interlocked his fingers).* *Hazrat Abu Abdullah Bukhari (who has written Sahih Bukhari) has said "By falling into such things, he does not remain a perfect believer and he does not possess the light of Iman." (This hadith is in Bukhari).*
