Bab al-Islam bima'na al-Istislam
Islam in the Meaning of Outward Submission
See! If Zakat is not given, the result is from the collection [chanda]. Fasting acts as a shield from Hell, meaning it protects just as a sword's blow is parried by a shield. Just think about it, fasting has been ordained so that one realizes the hunger and thirst of others, and humanity arises within a person. What is this? One eats so much that they burp. For half the day, they are restless due to the burden of eating, and for half the day, they are hungry due to fasting. The purpose of fasting is to break the self [nafs]; its rectification is the goal. But the condition of those who fast today is that they fight with others, every person is in a state of terror. Are these what you call Nafskashi (mortification of the flesh)? La hawl wa la quwwata (There is no power nor strength [except by Allah])! Giving charity removes God's anger. Poor people benefit from the giving of prosperous people. A person has the habit of getting up at half night to perform Tahajjud. But today, if one is heedless of the obligatory (Fard) [prayers], then who will read the Tahajjud prayer? The condition of people is such that the first half of the night is spent in useless talks and idle pastimes. What to say about those who go to the cinema? It is known that if a fire breaks out in the cinema once, they will be roasted as kebabs. From these people, what hope is there that they will pray Tahajjud? Look! The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Hold back your tongue," meaning do not speak ill of anyone, do not backbite anyone, do not give false testimony. But alas, people are trapped in all these calamities. The Holy Prophet ﷺ said, "As a result of talking too much, people will be thrown into the Fire, and into Hell." May God protect Muslims from all these evils. Ameen.
بَابُ الْإِسْلَامِ بِمَعْنَى الِاِسْتِسْلَامِ
(يُعْتَبَرُ عِنْدَ النَّاسِ وَلَا يُعْتَبَرُ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ إِذْ لَيْسَ عَلَى حَقِيقَتِهِ فَيَنْفَكُّ عَنِ الْإِيْمَانِ) (It is considered by people, but not considered by Allah, since it is not upon its reality, so it becomes separated from Iman)
قَالَتْ (Qalat): she/they said. قَالَتِ الْأَعْرَابُ (Qalatil A'rab): These Bedouin Arabs said.
Translation: Allah Tabaraka wa Ta'ala says: "The villagers of the Arabs said, 'We have brought Iman.' O Prophet! Tell them, 'You have not brought Iman, but rather say, we have submitted (brought Islam), and Iman has not yet entered your hearts'." (Al-Hujurat - Verse 14)

(Taraka rajulan): left a man. فَسَكَتُّ (Fasakattu): so I remained silent. فَوَاللَّهِ (Fawallahi): By Allah. فَعُدْتُ (Fa'udtu): so I repeated. لِمَقَالَتِيْ (Limaqalati): my previous statement. لَاُعْطِي (La-u'ti): I surely give. اَحَبُّ اِلَىَّ (Ahabbu ilayya): more beloved to me. خَشْيَةَ (Khashyata): fear, dread. يَكُبَّهُ (Yakkubbahu): throw him.
Translation: Hazrat Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas (RA) narrates that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ left out a man (while distributing the spoils of war) who was the most pleasing of them to me. So I submitted, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! Why do you object to so-and-so (meaning why do you not pay attention to him)? By Allah, I consider him a believer (Mumin)." So He ﷺ said, "Or a Muslim." (Meaning do not say Mumin, but rather say Muslim. Iman is a matter of the heart. You are not aware of it). Then I remained silent for a while, but then what I knew about him overcame me, so I repeated my statement, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ also repeated His statement. Then Hazrat ﷺ said: "O Sa'd! I give (a portion) to a man, although another man is more beloved to me than him, out of fear that Allah might throw him into the Fire." (Meaning they are new Muslims. They need to be reassured and won over. Those who are strong in Iman do not care for wealth). (Bukhari narrated it)
(Man Salla Salatana): whoever reads prayer like our prayer, meaning just as we perform it, reading the adhkar and verses, maintaining qiyam (standing), qawmah (standing after bowing), ruku (bowing), sujud (prostration), tashahhud, and turning for salam. اِسْتَقْبَلَ (Istaqbala): faced the Qibla. اَكَلَ (Akala): ate. ذَبِيْحَتَنَا (Dhabihatana): our slaughtered animal. فَذَالِكَ (Fadhalika): so that is. لَاتُخْفِرُوْهُ (La Tukhfiruhu): do not betray him.
