Bab fi al-Qiyamah wa Ashratiha
The Resurrection and Its Signs
Who will be the guardian of their women, and who will defend their lands?" Then Amir Muawiyah sent two men from the Quraysh tribe of Bani Abd Shams, Abdur Rahman bin Samurah and Abdullah bin Amir, to Hazrat Imam Hasan. Hazrat Muawiyah said to them: "Go to this person and present the situation to him, converse with him and make a request." Both of them came to Sayyidina Imam Hasan (RA). They entered his dwelling and spoke the matter they were sent to convey. Sayyidina Imam Hasan (RA) said to them: "We Bani Abdul Muttalib have acquired something from this wealth, and this group has shed blood." Both men said: "Amir Muawiyah offers you such and such terms and requests you, and we also ask you (to be witnesses), who will guarantee these conditions?" He said: "Who is for me in this?" Both said: "We guarantee it for you." Then Imam Hasan (RA) made peace. Hazrat Hasan Basri said: I heard Abu Bakr saying: "I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the pulpit and Hasan ibn Ali was beside him. The Holy Prophet ﷺ would look towards the people once and towards him (Hasan) once, and say: 'This son of mine is a Sayyid (leader), and perhaps Allah will make peace through him between two great groups of Muslims.'" (Bukhari narrated this. Taysir Volume One)
Translation: The Prophet ﷺ said: "The Caliphate in my Ummah after me is for thirty years. Then it is a kingship after that." (Imam Ahmad narrated this hadith in his Musnad, and Imam Tirmidhi in his Jami', and Ibn Hibban from Safinah in his book. Kanz al-'Ummal Volume 6)

Translation: Allah the Blessed and Exalted says: "Indeed, the Day of Judgment is an appointed time. The Day the Trumpet will be blown and you will come in multitudes. And the heaven will be opened and will become gateways. And the mountains will be set in motion and will become a mirage. Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait. For the transgressors, a place of return, in which they will remain for ages. They will not taste therein any coolness or drink, except scalding water and purulent fluid. An appropriate recompense. Indeed, they were not expecting an account, and denied Our verses with emphatic denial. But all things We have enumerated in writing. 'So taste [the penalty], and never will We increase you except in torment.' Indeed, for the righteous is attainment - gardens and grapevines, and full-breasted companions of equal age, and a full cup. They will not hear therein ill speech or falsehood. A reward from your Lord, a [generous] gift made due by account, from the Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them, the Most Merciful. They possess not from Him authority for speech. The Day that the Spirit and the angels will stand in rows, they will not speak except for one whom the Most Merciful permits, and he will say what is correct. That is the True Day; so he who wills may take to his Lord a way of return. Indeed, We have warned you of a near punishment on the Day when a man will observe what his hands have put forth and the disbeliever will say, 'Oh, I wish that I were dust!'"
---
Gabriel and the other angels will be standing in rows. They will not be able to speak from their mouths except for the one whom the Most Merciful grants permission, and he will say what is reasonable. That Day whose coming is certain. So whoever wills, let him make a place of return to his Lord. (O people!) We have warned you of a punishment that is approaching. The Day when a man will see what he has sent ahead with his own hands (as provisions for the hereafter) and the disbeliever will say, "I wish I were dust." (Surah Amm Para 30)
Translation: Hazrat Abu Huraira (RA) narrates that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The Hour will not be established until nearly thirty lying Dajjals are sent forth, each of them claiming that he is the Messenger of Allah." (Abu Dawud and Tirmidhi recorded this hadith)
Translation: Hazrat Abu Huraira (RA) narrates, he said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The Hour will not be established until the sun rises from the west. When the sun rises from the west and the people see it, all of them will believe. But that will be the time when faith will not benefit a soul that had not believed before or had not earned some good through its faith." (Imam Muslim and Imam Bukhari, both narrators, along with Abu Dawud have recorded this hadith)
Translation: Hazrat Anas (RA) narrates, he said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The Hour will not be established upon anyone who says 'Allah, Allah'." (Muslim recorded it and this wording is of Tirmidhi).

Translation: Hazrat Sahl bin Sa'd (RA) (may Allah be pleased with both of them, meaning the narrator and his father), said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "On the Day of Resurrection, people will be gathered on a white, slightly reddish land like a loaf of pure white bread. There will be no sign for anyone on it." (Imam Muslim and Imam Bukhari both have recorded this hadith in their books)
Translation: Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah Exalted be pleased with both of them) is the narrator that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "You will meet Allah barefoot, naked, and uncircumcised." (Five narrators have recorded this hadith except Abu Dawud. The five being Imam Bukhari, Imam Muslim, Hazrat Tirmidhi, Hazrat Nasai and Hazrat Ibn Majah)

Translation: Hazrat Abu Huraira (RA) narrates that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The feet of a servant will not move on the Day of Resurrection until he is asked about four things: (1) About his life, in what he consumed it, (2) About his knowledge, what he acted upon, (3) About his wealth, from where he earned it and in what he spent it, (4) And about his body, in what task he wore it out." (Tirmidhi)

Translation: Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As narrates that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Allah Exalted will distinguish a man from my Ummah in front of all creation. Ninety-nine registers (records of deeds) will be opened for him. Every register will be as far as the eye can see. Allah Exalted will ask, 'Do you deny anything from this? Have my guardian scribes wronged you?' He will say, 'No, O Lord.' Then He will ask, 'Do you have any excuse?' He will reply, 'No, O Lord.' Allah Mighty and Majestic will say, 'Yes, you have a good deed with Us, and today there will be no injustice upon you of any kind.' Then a small slip of paper will be brought out, in which it will be (written): 'I bear witness that there is no deity except Allah and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.' (Meaning he gave testimony of this). Then He will command to bring his scale. He will submit, 'O Lord! What is this small slip of paper compared to these registers?' Allah Exalted will say, 'Today you will not be wronged.' Then the registers will be placed on one pan of the scale and the slip of paper on the other pan. The registers will become light (and rise up) and the slip of paper will become heavy. Nothing can be heavier compared to the name of Allah." (Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah narrated this)

Vocabulary: Ikhtaba'tu: I have hidden, concealed. Na'ilatun: reaching, attaining. Mata: died. (Thalatha: meaning Abu Dawud, Nasai, Tirmidhi)
Translation: Hazrat Abu Huraira (RA) narrates that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "For every prophet, there is an accepted supplication. Every prophet made haste with his accepted supplication in his life. But I have hidden my supplication for the intercession of my Ummah on the Day of Resurrection. Thus, my intercession will reach, if Allah Exalted wills, whoever dies from my Ummah without associating anything with Allah."

Do you know why that is? Allah will gather the earlier and the later generations on one flat ground, so that the onlooker can see them and the caller can be heard by them. The sun will be brought close to them, and people will suffer such distress and trouble that they will not be able to bear or endure. Then the people will say: Do you not see what you are in? Do you not see who will intercede for you? Some of them will say to others: Your father Adam. So they will come to him and say: O Adam! You are the father of mankind. Allah created you with His Hand and breathed into you from His spirit, and commanded His angels to prostrate to you, and made you dwell in Paradise. Will you not intercede for us with your Lord? Do you not see what we are in and what has befallen us? So Adam (AS) will say: Indeed, my Lord is angry today with such an anger that He has never been angry like it before, and He will never be angry like it afterwards. And He had forbidden me from the tree, but I disobeyed. Myself, myself, myself. Go to someone else, go to Ibrahim. So they will come to Ibrahim and say: You are the Prophet of Allah and His close friend from among the people of the earth. Intercede for us with your Lord. Do you not see what we are in? So he will say to them: Indeed, my Lord is angry today with such an anger that He has never been angry like it before, and will never be angry like it afterwards. And I had indeed lied three lies, so he mentioned them (the note for this place is in the translation). Myself, myself, myself. Go to someone else, go to Musa. So they will come to Musa and say: O Musa! You are the Messenger of Allah. Allah preferred you over the people with His messages and His speech. Intercede for us with your Lord. Do you not see what we are in? So he will say: Indeed, my Lord is angry today with such an anger that He has never been angry like it before, and will never be angry like it afterwards. And I killed a soul that I was not commanded to kill. Myself, myself, myself. Go to Isa. And they will say: O Isa! You are the Messenger of Allah and His word which He bestowed upon Maryam and a spirit from Him, and you spoke to the people in the cradle. Intercede for us with your Lord. Do you not see what we are in? So Isa will say: Indeed, my Lord is angry today with such an anger that He has never been angry like it before. And he will not mention any sin. (The note for this place is in the translation). Myself, myself, myself. Go to someone else, go to Muhammad ﷺ. So they will come to Muhammad ﷺ, and in a narration: they will come to me, and say: O Muhammad! You are the Messenger of Allah and the seal of the prophets. Allah has forgiven you your past and future sins. Intercede for us with your Lord. Do you not see what we are in? So I will set off, going beneath the Throne, and fall prostrate to my Lord. Then Allah will open up to me from His praises and good glorification of Him something that He had never opened up to anyone before me. Then it will be said: O Muhammad! Raise your head. Ask, and you will be given; intercede, and your intercession will be accepted. So I will raise my head and say: My Ummah, O Lord! My Ummah, O Lord! My Ummah, O Lord! So it will be said:*

Admit those of your Ummah who have no reckoning upon them through the right gate among the gates of Paradise, and they will share with the people in the other gates besides that. Then He said: By the One in Whose Hand is my soul, the distance between the two door-leaves from the door-leaves of Paradise is like the distance between Makkah and Hajar, or like the distance between Makkah and Busra.*
(Bukhari, Muslim, and Tirmidhi recorded it - Taysir Volume 2)*

Note: I have taken this hadith out of compulsion. This is because there is no greater detail elsewhere. Otherwise, I believe that there is a hand of Christians in its narration. They do not consider the Prophets to be infallible. They belittled all the Prophets, and pointed out no mistake regarding Isa.
Translation: It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (RA), he said: "We were with the Prophet ﷺ at a feast. The foreleg of a goat was presented to Him ﷺ, and tearing and eating from the foreleg was pleasing to Him ﷺ. (While eating) He ﷺ said: I will be the leader of all the children of Adam on the Day of Resurrection. Do you know something? How will this happen, on what matter? Allah Almighty will gather the earlier and later ones (meaning all) on a clear land (meaning the face of the earth). The onlooker will see them and the caller will be heard. The sun will become close to them. The people will suffer such grief and distress for which they will have no strength to endure. Then some people among them will say: Do you still not look at this condition in which you are stuck. Will you not search for him who may intercede for you? So some among them will say to some of their companions, Adam is your father. So these people will go to him, then submit: O Adam! You are the father of mankind. Allah created you with His Hand...

...of power, and breathed His spirit into you, and made His angels prostrate to you, and made you dwell in Paradise. Will you not intercede for us with your Lord? Do you not observe this state of ours which we have reached? Hearing this, Hazrat Adam (AS) will say: Indeed, my Lord is so angry today that neither had He been like this before, nor will He be like this hereafter. Indeed, Allah Almighty had forbidden me from the tree, and I disobeyed. At this time, my soul itself is deserving of intercession. Go to someone else besides me. Go to Ibrahim. So these people will go to Hazrat Ibrahim and say: O Hazrat! You are the Prophet of Allah and His Khalil, close friend, among the people of the earth. Intercede for us with your Lord. Are you not observing this condition of ours in which we are? Then Hazrat Ibrahim will say to them: Indeed, my Lord is so angry today that neither had He ever been before today, nor will He ever be again after today. And I had said "Tawriyah" three times, meaning such things that ostensibly seemed to be lies (Tawriyah means a statement where the speaker says it with his own intended meaning, and the listeners understand it to mean something else. Then Hazrat Ibrahim will express those three incidents where he had to say so). (When this hadith was presented before Hazrat Imam-e-Azam (RH), he said: "Instead of saying 'The Prophet spoke three lies', it is better that I say 'The narrator spoke one lie', because Prophets are infallible.") Then Hazrat Ibrahim will say: Nafsi, nafsi. Meaning my soul itself is in need of intercession. Leave me and go to someone else, go to Musa. People will go to Musa and then say: O Musa! You are the Messenger of Allah; Allah has given you excellence over people through apostleship and address (Kalam). Intercede for us with your Lord. Do you not see what state we are in? Hearing this, Musa will say: Indeed, my Lord is so angry today that neither had He ever been so angry before this, nor will He ever be so angry in the future. I had killed such a person for whom I was not commanded. Nafsi, nafsi. You people go to Isa. People will go to him and submit: O Isa! You are the Messenger of Allah, and His Word which was cast towards Maryam, and the Spirit of Allah. Even in the cradle you...

...conversed. Intercede for us with your Lord. Do you not observe what state we are in? Hazrat Isa will say: Indeed, my Lord is so angry that neither had He ever been before today, nor will He ever be in such anger afterwards. He did not describe any fault of his. (There is a note at the beginning of the translation of the hadith). Nafsi, nafsi, nafsi. You people leave me and go to Muhammad ﷺ. So people will come to Muhammad ﷺ, and in one narration it is "will come to me", and will say: O Muhammad! (ﷺ) You are the Messenger of Allah, prophethood has ended upon you. You are Khatam al-Anbiya (the sealer of prophethood). Indeed, Allah has forgiven your former and latter (meaning all) sins. Intercede for us with your Lord. Are you not observing this condition of ours in which we are afflicted? So at that time, I will reach beneath the Throne and will fall down in prostration before my Lord. Then Allah Almighty will open all the doors of His praise and glorification upon me, which had not been opened upon anyone before me. Then Allah Almighty will say: "O Muhammad! Raise your head. Ask what you ask, you will be granted, and intercede, your intercession will be accepted." Then I will raise my head and submit, "O Lord, my Ummah. O Lord, have mercy on my Ummah. O Master, have mercy on my Ummah." Allah Almighty will say: O Muhammad! Admit those people of your Ummah upon whom there is no reckoning through the right-side gate of Paradise, and these people also have the right to go along with other people through the other gates. Then the Holy Prophet ﷺ said: "By that Absolute Being in Whose Hand of power is my soul, the distance between the two panels (leaves) of the gates of Paradise is as much as between Makkah and the land of Hajar, like between Makkah and Busra." (This hadith is in Bukhari, Muslim, and Tirmidhi, and is also in the second volume of Taysir).

Then its parts will be folded up against one another, and it will say: "Enough, enough, by Your Might and Your Generosity." And there will continue to be extra space in Paradise until Allah creates a creation for it, and settles them in the extra space of Paradise.* *(Bukhari, Muslim, and Tirmidhi recorded it)*
Lughat (Vocabulary): لَا تَزَالُ: Will not vanish, will not diminish. Will be thrown into it. Is there anything else? Is there nothing more than this? يَضَعَ: Will place. يُزْوَى: Will enter. قَطْ: Enough. By the oath of Your Might. Will settle them.
Translation: It is narrated from Hazrat Anas bin Malik (RA), he said: The Holy Prophet ﷺ said: People will continuously be thrown into Hell, and it will keep saying "Hal min mazeed", is there anything more or not? Until the Lord of Might places His Foot in it. (Meaning, will trample it), then one part of it will enter into another and it will cry out "Enough, enough. By Your Might, by Your Grandeur, enough". And there will remain extra portion in Paradise until Allah Almighty creates another creation for it and will settle them in this extra portion. (This hadith is in Bukhari, Muslim, and Tirmidhi).

Then they will retaliate against one another for the injustices that occurred between them in the world, until when they are purified and cleansed, they will be given permission to enter Paradise. By the One in Whose Hand is the soul of Muhammad, any one of them will be better guided to his dwelling in Paradise than he was to his dwelling in the world.*
Lughat (Vocabulary): يَخْلُصُ: Will attain freedom, will be released. They will attain freedom, they will emerge. They will be detained, stopped. قَنْطَرَةٍ: Bridge. Retaliation will be taken, revenge will be taken. هُذِّبُوا: Became civilized, became refined. نُقُوا: Pure. Commanded, received command.
Translation: It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (RA), he said the Holy Prophet ﷺ said: "The believers will emerge from Hell (after punishment), then they will be detained on a bridge between Paradise and Hell. When among them...

...some will take their retaliation and revenge from some others for those injustices which occurred between them in the world. Then when (after the completion of revenge) they become civilized and purified, they will be given permission to enter Paradise. By the pure Being in Whose grasp is Muhammad's soul, every person among them will know the path to his house in Paradise much better compared to how he knew the path to his house in the world. (Meaning every person in the world is familiar with the path to his house to whatever extent, every person of Paradise will know the path to his house in Paradise much more than that.) When he passes it, he will turn toward it and say: "Blessed is Allah Who saved me from you. Allah has given me something that He has not given to anyone among the earlier or later generations." Then a tree will be raised for him, and he will say: "O my Lord! Give me shelter near this tree so that I may seek shade under it and drink of its water." Allah will say: "O son of Adam! Perhaps if I grant you this, you will ask Me for something else." He will promise Him that he will not ask Him for anything else. And his Lord will excuse him because He sees that he has no patience for it. So He will bring him near it, and he will seek shade under it and drink of its water. Then a tree will be raised for him which is better than the first, and he will say: "O Lord! Give me shelter near this so that I may seek shade under it and drink of its water; I will not ask You for anything else." He will say: "O son of Adam! Did you not promise Me that you would not ask Me for anything else? Perhaps if I bring you near it, you will ask Me for something else." So he will promise Him that he will not ask for anything else. And his Lord will excuse him because He sees that he has no patience for it. So He will bring him near it, and he will seek shade under it and drink of its water. Then a tree will be raised for him near the gate of Paradise which is better than the first two, and he will say: "O Lord! Give me shelter near this so that I may seek shade under it and drink of its water; I will not ask You for anything else." And his Lord will excuse him because He sees that he has no patience for it. So He will bring him near it, and when he draws near it, he will hear the voices of the people of Paradise, and will say: "O my Lord! Admit me into Paradise." He will say: "O son of Adam! What will put an end to your requests to Me? Will it please you if I give you the equivalent of the world and the like of it along with it?" He will say: "O Lord! Are You mocking me, while You are the Lord of the worlds?" Then Ibn Mas'ud laughed and said: "Will you not ask me why I laughed?" It was said: "Why did you laugh?" He said: "This is how the Messenger of Allah ﷺ laughed." Then it was asked: "Why did You laugh?" He said: "Because of the laughter of the Lord of the worlds when he said: 'Are You mocking me, while You are the Lord of the worlds?' So He will say: 'I am not mocking you, but I am Capable of whatever I will.'"*
Lughat (Vocabulary): يَمْشِي: Walks. مَرَّةً: Sometimes, one time. يَكْبُو كَبْوًا: Will fall down. سَفَعَ يَنْفَعُ سَفْعًا: To scorch, to burn. نَجَّانِي: Saved me. Will be brought before him. اَوْنِي: Give me shelter. اَسْتَظِلَّ بِهَا: In its...

...shade I may stay. لَعَلِّي: If I, perhaps I. يَعْذِرُهُ: Will accept his excuse. Will bring him near to it. Did you not make a covenant with Me? تَسْتَهْزِئُ: You are mocking. ضَحِكَ: Smiled, laughed. مِمَّ ضَحِكْتُ: Why I laughed. فَقِيلَ: So it was said. I can do whatever I will. I am Capable of whatever I will.
Translation: It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas'ud (RA), he said, the Holy Prophet ﷺ said, "The very last person to enter Paradise will be that person who will sometimes walk, sometimes fall, and sometimes Hell will keep scorching him. When he completely emerges from Hell, he will turn and look towards it, then he will say, Blessed is Allah Almighty Who saved me from you. Allah has granted me such a thing that He would have never granted to anyone among the first and the last. A tree will appear before him, so he will say, O Lord, give me a place under this tree so that I may attain shade from it and drink its water. Then Allah Almighty will say, O son of Adam! O offspring of Adam! Perhaps if I give you that tree, you will start asking Me for more. He will submit, O Lord, I will ask for nothing else besides this tree, and will make a covenant not to ask for anything else besides it. His Lord will accept his excuse. Because He knows well that he will not have patience over it. So He will bring this person near to that (tree). Then that person will remain in its shade and will drink its water. Then such a tree will appear before him which will be even better than this first tree. Then he will submit, O Lord, give me a place under this tree so that I may remain in its shade and drink its water, I will not ask for anything besides this. Allah Almighty will say, O son of Adam, did you not make a covenant with Me that you would not ask for anything besides it. Perhaps if I give you that, you will ask for something besides it? So he will make a covenant that he will not ask for anything besides it. And his Lord will consider him excused. (Meaning will accept the excuse) Because He knows that he cannot have patience over it. Then He will bring that person near that tree. That person will take place in the shade of that tree and will drink its water. Then a tree will appear before him near the gate of Paradise which will be better than both trees. So that person will submit, O Lord, give me a place under this tree so that I may take its shade and drink its water. I will not make any other request besides this. His Lord will consider him excused because He knows well that he is very impatient.
---
He will bring him near this tree. When he becomes near the tree of the gate, he will hear the voices of the people of Paradise, then he will speak up, O Lord, admit me into Paradise. Allah Almighty will say, O offspring of Adam! How much will suffice you from Me? If I give you equivalent to the world and also that much more along with it, will you then be pleased? That person will say, O Lord! Are You mocking me even though You are the Lord of the worlds. (While saying this) Ibn Mas'ud broke into laughter. Then he said, Do you people not ask me for what reason I laughed? It was asked, why did you laugh? Ibn Mas'ud said, The Messenger of Allah ﷺ also laughed just like this and He ﷺ was asked why His Highness laughed? So His Highness ﷺ said, Because of the laughter of the Lord of the worlds. When that person said "Are You mocking me and You are the Lord of the worlds", so You will say, I am not mocking you but I can do whatever I will. (This hadith is in Muslim).

They will say: "Have You not brightened our faces? Have You not admitted us into Paradise? Have You not saved us from the Fire?" He said: Then He will remove the veil, and they will not be given anything more beloved to them than looking at their Lord, Blessed and Exalted. Then He recited this verse: For those who do good is the best reward and an addition.* *(Muslim and Tirmidhi recorded it - Taysir Vol 2)*
Lughat (Vocabulary): تُرِيدُونَ: You want, your intention is. أَزِيدُكُمْ: I increase for you. Did You not make bright? يَكْشِفُ: Will open, will remove. حِجَابَ: Veil. Whatever was granted to them. تَلَى: Recited.
Translation: It is narrated from Hazrat Suhayb (RA), he said, the Holy Prophet ﷺ said. When the people of Paradise enter Paradise, Allah Almighty will say. Do you want that I should give you something more? So they will submit, have You not made our faces bright and radiant? Have You not admitted us into Paradise? Have You not given us salvation from Hell? His Highness ﷺ said that Allah Almighty will lift the veils, so among the heavenly things they had been given, the most beloved of all to them will be the sight of their Lord. Blessed and Exalted. Then His Highness ﷺ recited this verse. (For the doers of good is good reward and more as well). (This hadith is also in Muslim and is also in Tirmidhi and is also in the second volume of Taysir).
