The Excellence of Ali bin Abi Talib (RA) and the Indication of His Caliphate
إِنَّ لِلَّهِ سَيْفًا مَغْمُودًا فِیْ غِمْدِهِ مَادَامَ عُثْمَانُ حَيًّا فَإِذَا قُتِلَ عُثْمَانُ جُرِّدَ ذَالِكَ السَّيْفُ فَلَمْ يُغْمَدْ إِلَی يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ - (الدیلمی عن انس)
Vocabulary: Saif: sword. Maghmooda: sheathed. Fi Ghimdihi: in its sheath. Jurrida: unsheathed, drawn. Lam Yughmad: will not be sheathed.
Translation: It is a prophetic saying: "Allah has a sword in its sheath as long as Uthman is alive. When Uthman is martyred, that sword will be drawn from the sheath and will not be sheathed again until the Day of Judgment." (This hadith was narrated by Dailami from Anas)
عَنْ أَنَسٍ أَنَّ وَفْدَ بَنِی الْمُصْطَلِقِ قَدِمُوا عَلَی النَّبِیِّ صَلَّی اللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالُوا إِلَی مَنْ نَدْفَعُ صَدَقَاتِنَا بَعْدَكَ فَقَالَ إِلَی اَبِیْ بَكْرٍ قَالُوْا فَإِنْ لَّمْ نَجِدْ اَبَابَكْرٍ قَالَ إِلَی عُمَرَ قَالُوْا فَإِنْ لَّمْ نَجِدْ عُمَرَ قَالَ إِلَی عُثْمَانَ قَالُوْا فَإِنْ لَّمْ نَجِدْ عُثْمَانَ قَالَ فَلَا خَيْرَ فِيكُمْ فِیْ الْحَيَاةِ بَعْدَ ذَالِكَ - (کر - كنز ج٦)
Vocabulary: Qadimoo: they came. Ila man nadfa'u: to whom do we give. In lam najid: if we do not find.
Translation: Hazrat Anas (RA) narrates that a delegation from the tribe of Bani Mustaliq came to the Holy Prophet ﷺ. The people of the delegation asked, "To whom should we give our sadaqah or zakat after you?" The Prophet ﷺ said, "To Abu Bakr." Then the people asked, "If we do not find Abu Bakr?" (meaning if he passes away). The Prophet ﷺ said, "To Umar." Those people asked, "If we do not find Umar either?" He said, "To Uthman." Those people asked, "If we do not find Uthman either?" He said, "After him, there is no good in life for you." (Ibn Asakir narrated it from Hazrat Anas, and it is also in Kanz al-'Ummal Volume 6)
بَابٌ : فَضْلِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِیْ طَالِبٍ وَالْإِشَارَةُ إِلَی خِلَافَتِهِ
أَنَا مَدِيْنَةُ الْعِلْمِ وَعَلِيٌّ بَابُهَا - فَمَنْ أَرَادَ الْعِلْمَ فَلْيَأْتِ الْبَابَ - (عن عد ، طب ، ك عن ابن عباس عد ، ك عن جابر - كنز)
Vocabulary: Madina: city. Bab: door.

Translation: The prophetic saying is that "I am the city of knowledge and Ali is its door (or its door is very high). So whoever wants to acquire knowledge, he should enter through the door, he should come to the door." This hadith is in Kamil by Ibn Adi, Tabarani in Mu'jam al-Kabir, and Hakim in his book narrated from Hazrat Abdullah ibn Abbas. And Ibn Adi and Hakim narrated it from Hazrat Jabir. This is also in Kanz al-'Ummal.
أَنْتَ مِنِّیْ بِمَنْزِلَةِ هَارُوْنَ مِنْ مُّوْسَی أَلَّا إِنَّهُ لَا نَبِیَّ بَعْدِیْ - (مسلم و ترمذی عن سعد) (ه - ت عن جابر کنز)
Translation: It is a prophetic saying regarding Hazrat Ali: "O Ali, you have the same status with me as Hazrat Harun had with Hazrat Musa. But remember that there is no prophet after me." (Muslim and Tirmidhi narrated this hadith from Hazrat Sa'd, and Ibn Majah and Tirmidhi narrated it from Hazrat Jabir, and it is also in Kanz al-'Ummal)
مَنْ كُنْتُ مَوْلَاهُ فَعَلِيٌّ مَوْلَاهُ - (حم عن البراء - حم عن بريده - ت ، ن ، والضياء عن زيد ابن ارقم)
Translation: The Holy Prophet ﷺ said: "Whoever's master I am, Ali is also his master, helper, supporter." (This hadith was narrated by Imam Ahmad from Bara bin Azib and from Buraidah. Imam Tirmidhi, Imam Nasai, and Diya al-Din narrated it from Zaid bin Arqam)
سَيَكُوْنُ بَعْدِیْ فِتْنَةٌ فَإِذَا كَانَ ذَالِكَ فَالْزَمُوْا عَلِيَّ ابْنَ أَبِی طَالِبٍ فَإِنَّهُ الْفَارُوْقُ بَيْنَ الْحَقِّ وَالْبَاطِلِ - (ابو نعیم عن ابی لیلی الغفاری کنز العمال جلد ٦)
Vocabulary: Sayakoonu: will soon be. Al-Faruq: the one who distinguishes, the one who separates the good from the bad. Alzamoo: hold firmly.
Translation: The saying of Mustafa ﷺ is that, "Soon after me there will be a fitna. When this happens, hold firmly to Ali ibn Abi Talib. For he distinguishes between truth and falsehood." (Abu Nu'aym narrated this from Hazrat Abu Layla al-Ghifari, Kanz al-'Ummal Volume 6)
إِنْ تَوَلَّوْا عَلِيًّا تَجِدُوْهُ هَادِيًا مَهْدِيًّا يَسْلُكُ بِكُمْ الطَّرِيقَ الْمُسْتَقِيمَ - (حل عن حذيفة - كنز جلد ٦)
Vocabulary: Tawallaw: to make someone a guardian. Tajidoohu: you will find him. Yasluku: he will tread, he will lead.
Translation: The Prophet ﷺ said: "If you make Ali your guardian, you will find him a guide and rightly guided. He will lead you on the straight path." (Abu Nu'aym narrated this hadith in "Hilyah". Kanz al-'Ummal Volume 6)

يَا عَلِيُّ! سُتُقَاتِلُكَ الْفِئَةُ الْبَاغِيَةُ وَاَنْتَ عَلَی الْحَقِّ فَمَنْ لَّمْ يَنْصُرْكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ فَلَيْسَ مِنِّیْ - (ابن عساکر عن عمار) (کنز جلد ٦)
Vocabulary: Tutaqiluka: will fight you. Fi'ah: group. Baghiyah: rebellious.
Translation: The Prophet ﷺ said: "Soon a rebellious group will fight against you, at that time you will be on the truth. So whoever does not help you in that, he is not from me." (Ibn Asakir narrated this hadith from Hazrat Ammar. Kanz al-'Ummal Volume 6)
يَا عَلِيُّ أَنْتَ تُبَيِّنُ لِأُمَّتِیْ مَااخْتَلَفُوْا فِيهِ مِنْ بَعْدِیْ - (ديلمی عن انس - کنز العمال جلد ٦)
Vocabulary: Tubayyinu: you will explain, you will clarify.
Translation: "O Ali! You will clarify the truth for my Ummah in whatever they differ in after me." (Dailami narrated this hadith from Hazrat Anas. It is also in Kanz al-'Ummal)
مَنْ أَطَاعَنِیْ فَقَدْ أَطَاعَ اللّٰهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَمَنْ عَصَانِیْ فَقَدْ عَصَی اللّٰهَ - وَمَنْ أَطَاعَ عَلِيًّا فَقَدْ أَطَاعَنِیْ وَمَنْ عَصَی عَلِيًّا فَقَدْ عَصَانِی - (ك عن ابي ذر - كنز ج ٦)
Vocabulary: Ata'a: obeyed. Qad: truly, meaning definitely. Asa: disobeyed.
Translation: The prophetic saying is: "Whoever obeyed me (meaning adhered to my commands), he indeed obeyed Allah Mighty and Majestic, and whoever disobeyed me, he indeed disobeyed Allah, and whoever obeyed Ali, he indeed obeyed me, and whoever disobeyed Ali, he indeed disobeyed me." (Hakim narrated this hadith from Abu Dhar, and it is also in Kanz al-'Ummal Volume 6)
تَكُوْنُ بَيْنَ النَّاسِ فُرْقَةٌ وَاخْتِلَافٌ فَيَكُوْنُ هَذَا وَأَصْحَابُهُ عَلَی الْحَقِّ يَعْنِیْ عَلِيًّا - (طب عن كعب بن عجرة - كنز ج ٦)
Translation: When differences and divisions arise among people, then this (man) and his companions will be on the truth. By "this" he meant Ali. (Tabarani narrated it from Ka'b bin Ujrah. Kanz al-'Ummal Volume 6)
اَلْحَقُّ مَعَ ذَا اَلْحَقُّ مَعَ ذَا يعنی عَلِيًّا - (ع ض عن ابی سعید - کنز ج ٦)
Vocabulary: Dha: this man. You people are accustomed to saying "haza". "Ha" is separate, the root is "Dha".

Translation: He said: "The truth is with him, the truth is with him." Meaning with Ali. (Abu Ya'la and Diya al-Maqdisi narrated this hadith from Abu Sa'id. It is also in Kanz al-'Ummal Volume 6)
اَللَّهُمَّ ثَبِّتْ لِسَانَهُ وَاهْدِ قَلْبَهُ - قَالَ لِعَلِيٍّ - (ك عن علی)
Translation: "O Allah, keep his tongue steadfast and guide his heart." This statement was in relation to Hazrat Ali. (Hakim narrated this hadith from Hazrat Ali)
مَا انْتَجَيْتُهُ وَلَكِنَّ اللّٰهَ انْتَجَاهُ - (ت حسن غريب - طب عن جابر)
Vocabulary: Intajaa: to converse secretly, whisper.
(Hasan: A type of hadith that has a degree of certainty for reliance. However, it lacks somewhat in its classification. Gharib: A hadith in which there is a solitary narrator in its chain). Translation: He said: "I did not whisper to him, but Allah whispered to him." Meaning, whatever the Prophet ﷺ said to Hazrat Ali secretly, all of that was by divine command. (Tirmidhi and Tabarani narrated this hadith from Hazrat Jabir. This hadith is "Hasan" and "Gharib")
اَبُوْبَكْرٍ وَ عُمَرُ مِنِّیْ كَعَيْنَیَّ فِیْ رَأْسِی وَعُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَفَّانَ مِنِّیْ كَلِسَانِیْ فِیْ فَمِی وَعَلِيُّ ابْنُ أَبِیْ طَالِبٍ مِنِّیْ كَرُوْحِیْ فِیْ جَسَدِیْ - (ابن النجار عن ابن مسعود - كنز ج ٦)
Vocabulary: Ka: like, similar. Aynay: my two eyes.
Translation: He said: "Abu Bakr and Umar are to me like my eyes in my head, and Uthman bin Affan is to me like my tongue in my mouth, and Ali ibn Abi Talib is to me like my soul in my body." (Ibn al-Najjar narrated this hadith from Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas'ud. It is also in Kanz al-'Ummal Volume 6)
أَرْبَعَةٌ لَا يَجْتَمِعُ حُبُّهُمْ فِیْ قَلْبِ مُنَافِقٍ وَلَا يُحِبُّهُمْ إِلَّا مُؤْمِنٌ أَبُوْبَكْرٍ وَ عُمَرُ وَعُثْمَانُ وَعَلِيٌّ - (ابن عساکر عن انس - كنز ج ٦)
Vocabulary: La yajtami'u: does not gather. Hubbuhum: love for them.
Translation: There are four whose love cannot gather in the heart of a hypocrite, and only a believer loves them. These four are Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman, and Ali. (Ibn Asakir narrated this hadith from Hazrat Anas. Kanz al-'Ummal Volume 6)
